Your daily dose of breaking tech news

Happy Monday, folks! I hope you guys had a good weekend.

First up in today’s newsletter, Huawei's jumping into the gaming ring with a mysterious new laptop. Spotted at ChinaJoy, this GT-branded beauty is turning heads. But can Huawei crack the competitive gaming market?

Meanwhile, Samsung's premium Watch Ultra is losing more than just time - it's shedding paint! At $649, you'd expect it to keep its coat on. Is this a one-off mishap or a sign of bigger issues?

But wait, there's more! Xiaomi's playing software Grim Reaper, adding a whopping dozen smartphones to their End-of-Life list. Is your device on the chopping block? We've got the full rundown of which phones are losing support.

And in a twist no one saw coming, Apple's tumbled out of China's smartphone top five. What's behind this unexpected fall from grace in one of the world's biggest markets?

All the juicy details on these stories are in today’s newsletter below.

The 2024 ChinaJoy expo is currently in full swing with various brands announcing several new products — Lenovo Xiaoxin 12.5 tablet for instance.

Huawei is one of the participants who made a surprise reveal of a new, yet-to-be-announced notebook at the event. Although the company hasn’t shared any details yet, the laptop features a “GT” logo on both the chassis and packaging.

Samsung‘s newly launched Galaxy Buds 3 Pro was pulled from sale due to major quality issues. Now the company’s latest and most premium watch, the Galaxy Watch Ultra, is also facing a paint peeling issue.

Xiaomi has recently expanded its End-of-Life (EOL) list, ending software support for over a dozen smartphones across its Xiaomi, Redmi, and Poco brands. This includes popular models like the Xiaomi Mi 10 series and the Redmi Note 10 lineup.

Apple has fallen out of the top five smartphone vendors in China for the first time since its rapid rise in the market. According to market research firm Canalys, iPhone shipments in China declined by 6.7% year-on-year in the second quarter of 2024.
