GIZMOCHINA DAILY

Daily Tech News & Insights, Every Weekday.

Good morning and happy Monday!

We’re starting the week with a deeper look at Xiaomi’s major strategic shift — the company is quietly cutting back on the number of phones it launches each year, signaling a move toward a more focused lineup and longer software support. Meanwhile, BYD has stunned the auto world with the record-breaking U9 Xtreme, Apple’s next budget iPhone gets early 2026 details, and leaks point to more additions coming to the Redmi K90 series.

Here’s everything in today’s edition:

  • Why Xiaomi is suddenly launching fewer phones than ever before

  • BYD U9 Xtreme becomes the fastest production car at 496.22 km/h

  • iPhone 17e leak reveals 18MP selfie camera + A19 chip for early 2026

  • Redmi K90 Pro and K90 Ultra rumored with new screen sizes

  • OnePlus 15R tipped with Snapdragon 8 Gen 5

Let’s get into it.

Xiaomi is changing its approach to smartphones. The company has sharply reduced the number of new models it launches each year. This shift marks a major break from its earlier strategy, which focused on flooding the market with a wide range of devices under multiple sub-brands.

Xiaomi now aims to streamline its product lineup and focus more on software longevity, global consistency, and ecosystem integration. The decision comes even as the global smartphone market shows signs of recovery.

Read on to find out.

BYD showed up at the 2025 Guangzhou Auto Show with a clear intention: steal the spotlight. And with the debut of the YANGWANG U9 Xtreme, the company may have done exactly that.

The limited-run electric hypercar is now officially the fastest production car on the planet. The big number making headlines is its 496.22 km/h (308 mph) top speed, delivered by a four-motor setup pushing close to 3,000 hp. That’s enough to leapfrog the Bugatti Chiron and give BYD bragging rights.

A new research note from analyst Jeff Pu outlines Apple’s early 2026 product plans, highlighting updates to its budget iPhone line and other entry-level devices.

Pu’s claims, based on industry supply chain signals, offer an initial look at how Apple could expand its affordable lineup next year.

Here’s a look at the details shared by the analyst.

Redmi unveiled the Redmi K90 and Redmi K90 Pro Max equipped with the Snapdragon 8-series chipsets in China.

A new leak, courtesy of tipster Smart Pikachu, has revealed that the company is planning to add more models to the series. He has also revealed the screen size of the two expected models. According to the tipster, the Redmi K90 series may introduce two new models possibly positioned as the K90 Pro and the K90 Ultra.

A new budget flagship smartphone from OnePlus is arriving soon, and it might bring a powerful chipset that is perfect for gaming.

Earlier this month, the OnePlus 15R was teased ahead of its global debut.

The Chinese brand’s upcoming OnePlus 15R is expected to be positioned right below the flagship OnePlus 15, which is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5. But ahead of the OnePlus 15R’s official announcement, a leak reveals even the 15R could feature Gen 5 chip.
