Xiaomi took second place in global smartphone sell-through volume in August 2024, outperforming Apple. This is in terms of the actual number of units sold to end customers rather than the quantity supplied to retailers. The data is from Counterpoint's Smartphone 360 Monthly Tracker.

Notably, this is the first time Xiaomi has ranked second since 2021. The image below shows how the sell-through volume of Xiaomi, Apple, and Samsung devices changed over the last three years.

While Android smartphones have long supported wireless charging, there is still plenty of space for development. Unlike iPhones, Android flagships frequently lack magnets to correctly align the charging coils, which would allow for more efficient charging. However, this could change shortly with the release of the Oppo Find X8 and Xiaomi 15 series.

Huawei's tri-fold smartphone has received widespread notice. However, Huawei may not be the only business that makes a tri-fold phone for long. A recent patent application from Xiaomi, granted by China's State Intellectual Property Office under application number 2022308530675, reveals the company's development of a tri-fold device.

The patent application fails to disclose the model name, but it does reveal the phone's design. The phone folds into a Z form, comparable to the Huawei Mate XT (hands-on).

TCL, China's largest TV manufacturer, is under fire after a recent study revealed that certain models of its QLED TVs may lack the quantum dot (QD) components that are essential to their marketing. This result, based on independent testing, has caused debate, as QLED technology is commonly advertised as delivering improved color reproduction and image quality.
